Vidarbha tur, split and colour-sorted at our own mills and packed with nothing added. No oil, no water polish, no colour. It looks matte rather than glossy, and that is exactly what unpolished dal is supposed to look like.

Desi chana from the Yavatmal belt, split bold and even with the husk properly off and the powder screened out, so the pot gets dal and not fines.

Swastik Kala Chana काला चना

Whole desi chana, cleaned and graded so the grains are an even size and cook through together. The brown skin stays on, which is where the bite and the earthy flavour come from.

  • Cooking: Soak overnight (about 8 hours), then pressure-cook

Swastik Kabuli Chana काबुली चना

White chickpea, size-graded so every grain in the pack is close to the same size. Even sizing is the difference between chole that cooks evenly and chole with hard grains in it.

A mill's own brand, not a repacker's.

Most retail dal is bought in bulk from whoever is cheapest that week and repacked. Swastik comes off our own lines, so we can tell you exactly where it was grown, milled and packed.

Nothing added to make it shine

No oil polish, no water polish, no colour. Polish changes how dal looks on a shelf, not how it cooks. We leave the grain as it comes off the line, so what you see in the window is what goes in the pot.

Packed where it is milled

Milled and packed in our own units at Paratwada and Yavatmal, in the middle of the tur and chana belt. No third-party repacker in between.

Sorted for a home kitchen

Destoned, de-husked and colour-sorted to a tighter tolerance than our trade sacks, so you are not picking stones and black grains out before you cook.

Every label fully declared

FSSAI licence, batch number, pack month, net weight and a consumer-care number that reaches the mill, not a call centre.

Polished or unpolished?

How to tell the difference in two minutes.

  • Look: unpolished dal is matte and slightly uneven in tone; polished dal has a uniform gloss.
  • Rub: rub a small handful between your palms. Oil-polished dal leaves a faint greasy film; unpolished dal leaves a fine, dry powder.
  • Soak: ten minutes in a glass of water. Oil polish often leaves a thin sheen; unpolished dal turns the water slightly cloudy, which is just surface dust. Strong bright yellow water is a warning sign.

Move it into an airtight glass or food-grade container, use a dry spoon and keep it in a cool, dry cupboard away from sunlight. Do not refrigerate it, because taking it in and out of the fridge causes condensation.
